Cooperative single-atom photoactivation (CT0-CT3 cycle)
협력적 단일 원자 광활성화 (CT0–CT3 사이클)
single-atom-Cu-TiO₂ 촉매의 4-상태 가역적 광활성화 사이클로, TiO₂ 전도대가 산화환원 매개체로 작용하고 단일 Cu 원자가 효소 유사 보조인자(cofactor)로 기능한다 (see Lee et al., Nat. Mater. (2019), Figs. 1b, 5a–d, 6c).
사이클
- CT0 (휴지 상태) — 흰색 입자, Cu²⁺, 비활성.
- CT1 (광여기) — 빛이 TiO₂ 내에서 e⁻/h⁺ 쌍을 생성함.
- CT2 (전자 전달) — 전자가 TiO₂ 전도대에서 Cu의 d_z² 궤도함수로 이동하여 Cu²⁺ → Cu¹⁺ 환원이 일어나고, 전하 균형을 위해 양성자가 흡착됨.
- CT3 (활성 상태) — 검은색 입자; TiO₂ 격자가 변형되어 (후면 O 결합 1.959 → 2.113 Å), 광대역 흡수와 감소된 광발광이 나타남.
이 사이클은 초과산화물(superoxide)을 생성하는 단일 전자 O₂ 산화에 의해 역전된다 (WST-1 분석 양성) (see Lee et al., Nat. Mater. (2019), Fig. 6c). 활성화 시간 규모 ~10 min; 재생성 수 분.
효소-보조인자 유사성
TiO₂ 전도대 = 산화환원 매개체; Cu = 보조인자; 격자 변형 = 거시적 기능 변화. 4-상태 전환은 협력적 효소의 작동을 모방한다.
관계성
- 활성 CT3 상태는 순수 TiO₂ 대비 34× HER 향상의 근거가 된다 (PL 소광은 향상된 전하 분리를 확인해 줌; Fig. 4a,f) → photocatalytic-HER-rate.
- single-atom-Cu-TiO₂의 Ti 공공 내 Cu 위치(Cu-in-Ti-vacancy site)는 이 사이클의 구조적 전제 조건이다.
- Ni@N₄ 전기촉매(M-N₄-limiting-potential-CO₂-selectivity)와 지지체 내 단일 원자 설계 원리를 공유하나 — 메커니즘은 상이하며, 동일한 설계 변수를 활용한다.
